The group was Level 42 (from the UK), their song (There's) Something about you was quite a major hit in Germany as well as in the UK and the US. The quality of Level 42's songs decreased in the following years but I still enjoy their big hits from the mid-80ies when I hear them on the radio once a year or so. Nothing great but good pop songs.
